The SAAB 3-Cylinder 2-Stroke Crankshaft
The only rebuilt crank in the world with ALL NEW authentic parts!

West of Sweden SAAB brings you the best rebuilt 2-stroke crankshaft anywhere! Not only do we supply new main bearings but also new custom-fabricated connecting rod bearing cages, rollers, connecting pins, connecting rods, wrist pin bearings, seals - even the flywheel bolt locking plate! Unlike our Swedish friends, we are not using Japanese marine engine parts in place of SAAB stuff, and unlike everyone else out there, we no longer use previously-enjoyed cages, connecting pins, connecting rods, bearings, seals or otherwise!

This level of newness in our crankshaft service is in response to connecting rods such as you see in the middle. The bad connecting rod and the fresh crankshaft belong to vintage racers George and Stefan Vapaa's SAAB-powered Quantum Formula S. Not only racing SAABs can melt a cracked bearing cage! Old connecting rod bearing cages (like the one at the bottom of the picture, which we appropriately turned into a keychain - one free with your crank rebuild) after many years of faithful service will fissure and crack at weak points. Once this happens, it is only a matter of time before the gap between the roller bearing and the cage shrinks, the roller seizes to the cage ... and a chain reaction results in a tow home, whether on the side of the freeway or out on course.

Here is a sampling of the new pieces we have had manufactured or sourced into our pressed assembly:

A close-up of our new connecting rod bearing cage, pin (the inboard wear part of the connecting rod equation) and our new rollers. At this rate, most, if not all original SAAB connecting rods are worn past what 6mm rollers are good for. The same goes for the pins. The more clearance the rollers have on one thrust angle, the more they will start chipping away at the old cages, themselves hardly as sturdy as the hardened steel items above. Age brittles old aluminum along with thousands of heat cycles over the lifespan.

Now you know why we turned these into keyrings - heck, they're too cool looking to toss out!

Closeup of the business end shows the rear seals on the back hub of the crank. New oillite bronze pilot bushing and flywheel bolt locktab come with your new crank, natch. Yes, we have new wrist pin bearings for the small end of the rod as well. This is a GT crank (note closed webs), but in the vein of the GT-750 so it's a mixer, not an injector. Remember, this is a racing crank for high compression. You want that? We can deliver! Need stock 850? GT-850 for Monte Carlo or Sonett II? No problem!

We need your old crank for counterweights (no reason to replace them, but we can't run out) as well as front nose and rear hub. These are items which are not stress and wear items. If you are overseas, we have a modest core charge which will undoubtedly be less than shipping us your old crank. Likewise, this applies if you have a crank which seized violently or mice have pissed on it in your garage or basement the last 20 years... we're used to it.

Need to go further? We have new pistons in stock in standard, .5 and 1.0 mm oversize. Oversizes through 74mm available on request by special order only, and lead time can be as much as 6-8 weeks. Just need rings? A head gasket? We've got 'em too - e-mail or call 804-357-4926 and enquire!

Payment accepted by VISA, Mastercard, Cheques & Cash
Shipping costs vary due to the weight of a crankshaft, and we need your core crank in any event.
