1967 SAAB 96 2-stroke - 19 November 2003
I'm in the process of buffing the car out after a comprehensive
stab with the claybar and a lot fo work to the car's brightwork including
the aluminium windshield lockstrips. All paint is believed to be original
and aside from some scrapes on the right front fender and numerous chips,
is in pretty good shape. Stains and old scratches are coming to the fore
but that is patina. I will respray the fender as well as the valance panel
beneath the grille, which has a good stump-whack as well as surface rust.
I removed the license plate bracket it had for the first time
in its life and found that sap or other buildup underneath. It's not moving.
Time to dig up one more mudflap too. Note I am taping off all the rubbers
as I compound and buff.
This side has not been compounded out yet. Tough to tell with
the colour being what it is and the flourescent lighting which shows every
little flaw.
I've got the gas tank out for renewal as the car sat from
1976 until 2 weeks ago with the exception of a little time in 1989 back
on the road. So I figured I'd pull the rest of the seats out and tidy up
while I had a chance.
That green car looks on with envy, but it knows it has better
seats than these.
That's not rust, just seam sealer. This car is solid as a
rock.
Flawless back here, too. Gas tank comes back Friday the 21st
(hopefully) as does the passenger door lock. Then on to the mechanicals!
The motor does turn freely and the gearbox goes through all the gears; brakes
and clutch hydraulics work - so cross your fingers!
