1995 RANGE ROVER COUNTY CLASSIC
FULLY MECHANICALLY SORTED AND EQUALLY BEAUTIFUL
Truly 'A Rather Exceptional Vehicle'!
Epsom Green with Optional Lightstone Interior
- 100,806 miles travelled from new
MAJOR service completed just before 100,000 miles - over $8,000 in receipts
THIS YEAR (see below)
COLD original R134a CFC-Free A/C (1995 was the first year from the factory)
VEHICLE CONVERTED TO COIL SPRINGS AND BILSTEIN
HD SHOCK ABSORBERS - AN IMPROVEMENT ON THE STD. WHEELBASE RANGE ROVER OVER
THE TROUBLESOME AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM - NO COMPROMISES TO OFF-ROAD PERFORMANCE
UNLIKE THAT WITH A COIL CONVERTED COUNTY LWB'S DEPARTURE ANGLE!
ABSOLUTELY RUST FREE INSIDE, OUTSIDE AND UNDERNEATH
ALL SYSTEMS FUNCTION AS THEY SHOULD!
Note European-spec front corner lenses - acquired
brand new not long ago - major improvement in looks to that of a Vogue LSE.
Body is straight with no prior accident damage.
Michelin "4x4" tires are correct specification, nearly new and
VERY quiet. Rims are straight and balanced perfectly, no vibrations at any
speed, period.
As mentioned above, rear hatch is absolutely
rust free in all respects. At one time it had been repainted, but no rot
repair is evident.
Rear bumper is free of any damage, factory tow
hitch is present, exhaust is leak free throughout (looks like a replacement).
Left side is as straight as the right. No evidence
of any damage.
Hatch struts are good, tailgate comes down freely.
Cargo area is spotless as is the rest of the interior.
Headliner professionally installed in February.
It is perfect.
CD changer is present and working in the cargo
area and compliments the nearly 300W Pioneer/Harman-Kardon factory audio
system which is absolutely brilliant and unmatched in any 1995 era vehicle.
Another shot of the left side of the vehicle.
The Epsom Green paint is flawless throughout. If any paintwork has been
done, it is not evident. Doors and latches operate properly as they should.
Here's where it gets really good. The original
(save for the driver's seat bottom) Lightstone leather interior is spotless.
Tan carpet with original floormats likewise. Leather wrapped steering wheel
and emergency brake gaiter likewise. To the Buy it Now purchaser goes a
nice bonus, read on below.
Dashboard is crack-free throughout. All instrumentation
and accessories from the rear wiper to the climate control work as they
should.
Mileage is as indicated, vehicle is in my storage
garage and will not be driven during the course of this auction unless a
test drive is scheduled.
The flash really overaccentuates every flaw
here. The wood is beautiful with very slight crazing to the varnish atop
the veneer. Nothing is peeling or loose. The transmission and transfer case
operate perfectly as they should.
Original owners manual packet present in passenger's
front footwell slot, pictured here on the front seat.
Original back seat folds down 60/40 for picnic
and writing desk on opposite side or maximum cargo space.
Original 1-piece carpeted floormat is present.
The 3.9 litre Rover Aluminium V8 runs as it
should thanks in part to a COMPLETELY REBUILT pair of cylinder heads, new
rocker arm assemblies, related gaskets, et.c. Furthermore a new Genuine
Land Rover radiator was fitted at the same time (and consequently replaced
under warranty when it went bad 800 miles later!) Full ignition tuneup was
performed about this time by me with correct heat range Champion plugs,
new cap, rotor and plug wires. I had the radiator and overflow tanks replaced
as a routine precaution at the same time as the radiator as well. I was
even picky enough to change the oil cap with a new one since the original
was cracking.
At the same time a full factory 90,000 mile
service was performed by a factory trained Land Rover technician. This entailed:
* Change engine oil & filter
* Change transmission fluid and filter (BG Flush performed as well)
* Change front and rear axle oils
* Check swivel housings
* Change coolant if more three years old and not done at 60k
* Change transfer case oil
* Change brake fluid by pumping fresh fluid through the system
* Check and top all other fluids
* Oil all door and body hinges
* Adjust emergency brake
* Repack wheel bearings unless they have been previously serviced
* Replace air filter
* Check steering linkage joints. On Disco 1 and Classic replace any that
are still original.
* Check brakes
* Adjust parking brake
* Check exhaust and under car components for damage
* Check wipers if bad
* Check lights
* Check a/c and heat
* Check all accessories
* Check washer jets, clean and adjust if needed
* Rotate tires
* Check for stored fault conditions with T-4 Mobile + diagnostics .
* Check operation of O2 sensors
* Road test and note other problems
* Sunroof guide rails lubed
Underneath the Range Rover, the steering shock
(replaced with HD Old Man Emu), pitman arm joint, tie rod ends, ball joints,
front pads and rotors, front differential pinion seal, rear flex coupler
(flex disc serves as universal joint) and rear differential pinion seal.
On another matter to check the timing chain for play and looking for a non-existent
noise, the front engine cover gasket was also changed. All receipts are
present for these repairs and convey with the vehicle.
Finally the vehicle was properly aligned to
exactly neutral toe and the steering wheel was centered. It drives like
a new one. I should know - I drove plenty of them - my father has been a
national top Land Rover Salesman since March of 1987 in New Jersey, and
I learned a lot along the way as I was coming up in the world. I was leery
then of the EAS and love this RR with coil springs and Bilsteins - I kid
you not - it drives like a new '93 or a new '95 Discovery so equipped IF
NOT BETTER.
why am I selling?
Damn it, I can't bear to drive it in the rain
or any other bad weather. It's too nice. That's not all - I need to finish
my new workshop building (a fully insulated 54'x30' shop), buy a small pickup
truck to facilitate this and other menial building and property tasks, clear
out my inventory of collectible and fun cars old and new somewhat... the
list goes on. I am a vintage automobile restorer and parts vendor by trade,
and though I bought the best Range Rover I could find on sentimental grounds,
for practical reasons I have no use for it. It burns, but there you go -
I have a great deal of affection for the Classic - absolutely none for the
P38a, LR3, RR3, Range Rover Sport - no, the only one to survive 25 years
of continuous production and the last year, and the best year, that trips
my trigger. I'd keep it, but then, I'd keep everything.
I drove it today to the other side of town to
pick up the new glass installed in the original frames for my 1940 LaSalle
5019 sedan which I am trying to get reassembled this year as well. I nearly
cried - the Range Rover behaved impeccably (no less kept me cool on this
90F humid Virginia afternoon!) and impressed even my jaded upholstery and
glass guy. It gets looks like a prewar car going down the road, and not
like most, because it's trailing clouds of smoke or gallons of some vital
fluid.
