1994 SAAB 9000 Aero
LIFETIME RICHMOND, VA RUST-FREE TURBO SUPERCAR
Please wait for all pictures to load!

Just over 198,000 miles from new. Original owner bought the car through European Delivery (some accompanying documents follow the car) and used it largely for long highway commutes to work to the northeast of Richmond 1994-2004.

SAAB B234R 2.3 Litre 4 cylinder turbocharged engine - 5 speed manual transaxle
NO ELECTRONIC THROTTLE OR TRACTION CONTROL - THIS IS A BIG PLUS
Power everything - windows, locks, glass moonroof with sliding interior cover, mirrors et.c.
MANY new parts - all injectors, both driveaxles, electric fan switch, lamp control relay and more
MANY recent repairs - clutch job, tie rod ends, alignment and more

Very straight original "Super Aero" 16" rims with near new Michelin MXV4 tires, good for many thousands more miles. Car is as stable as a new one at well beyond legal limits. All exterior lights work, recent VA State Inspection.

Save for the occasional small door ding and a little gravel-truck rash up front, the original paint shines without any detailing. A good clay-bar and wax would do wonders! Note the rear has already been de-badged to save you any extra attention from the law. Rear fog and reverse lights work as you can see. Much of the exhaust system is new on the car. I was underneath it on the lift when I changed the axles and wish I had had my camera handy to show that the entire underside of the car would also benefit from a detailing to shine like the topside - amazing!!

Rear spoiler was standard on the Aero and colour coded (except for the rear lip) to the rest of the car. Hatch struts are perfect.

Let's take a quick look in the hatch. Toolkit is full, right down to the original pair of gloves.

Back outside and down the left side of the car.

You'll note the headlight wipers are gone. One of them has a broken spring tab keeping it from staying flush on the headlight. I noticed this when I was adjusting the lights and removed both of them.

This car's engine compartment has not been detailed. The car has been maintained and hence is clean underhood. Note recent high-performance blow-off valve, below which is a cleanable cold air intake replacing the clumsy SAAB airbox. Definitely adds to the already potent kick of the Aero.

I believe that major work has been done to the engine at one time, as all of these cars seemed to need a head gasket, timing and balance shaft chains, sprockets and tensioners at about 150k. If it hadn't been done by this point, one could hear the chain rubbing the top of the cam cover. To confirm this hypothesis, I found a few loose exhaust manifold nuts and tightened them back down, indicating it's been off and likely the head as well. This engine is as quiet as they come, the mute ticking of the new Bosch injectors are the only sound at idle. Note new SAAB battery and much else up to speed.

I also recharged the air conditioning with Enviro-Safe ES-12a, a product which runs at a much lower thermal pressure than R-134A. On a warm day a few days ago sitting hot in the driveway it blew ice cubes out the vents. And if you know the 9000, there's no eau de heater core leakage coming out of the vents.

The flash picked up every tiny wear line in the driver's seat. I cleaned and conditioned it with a 2-step process called Gliptone out of the UK. The seat is now clean and supple. In many ways this seat is in better condition than the sub-50,000 mile 1995 Aero I owned a few years ago, there's no dye peel at all. The rest of the interior looks to have been very sparingly used.

SPECIAL BONUS! If Buy it Now is used, I will give you a Gliptone kit with the car to finish cleaning and conditioning the leather which will preserve it for many more years to come!

The car was obviously garage kept given the exquisite condition of the interior. Again, the flash picks up more flaws than are present. Dash is uncracked, steering wheel in great shape, gearshift knob and leather gaiter ditto. ACC-2 system works flawlessly as does the AM/FM/CD/EQ factory Clarion Sound System. Finally, as these cars had standard, the SAAB Car Computer (SCC, in clock position) works perfectly.

The back seats appear never to have been used, much less sat in. Amazing.

Sorry for the lousy light and equally poor picture. There's a sheaf of records with this car accompanying the complete owners' manual packet.

What I've done to bring the car up to speed:

197,966 - 31 JAN 06 - O/F CHANGE CASTROL GTX 10W30/PF53 FILTER 5 QTS
197.967 - 1 FEB 06 - COOLER TEMP FAN SWITCH, NEW T-STAT, MB COOLANT, 2 CANS ES-12A REFRIGERANT, BELOW 40 DEGREES AT THE VENTS.
197,969 - 2 FEB 06 - FUEL INJECTORs REPLACED DUE TO BAD PINTLE CAPS, FUEL INLET LINE WASHERS, CABIN TEMP SENSOR, HEADLIGHT BULB CONTROL RELAY
198,034 - 7 FEB 06 - NEW DRIVE AXLES, FOUR WHEEL ALIGNMENT

who am I?

I'm Chip Lamb, owner of West of Sweden SAAB. This car came up for sale locally, and I picked it up to see if I wanted one of these again. While I put tens of thousands of miles on a couple of these in years gone by, it doesn't suit my needs and we have plenty of projects here occupying valuable indoor space. I was remarking to a friend the other day that I got lucky dodging the law in my last 2 B234R-powered 9000s and I wasn't so sure my heavy foot could survive another one.

And not that this is a project car! Nevertheless I sorted the car out for the average enthusiast and am turning it around to the next owner. Because I got a good deal on it, you will too - it will be hard to match this deal for an utterly-rust and crash-free 9000 Aero manual transmission and NO ELECTRONIC THROTTLE car anywhere. That's right. It is NOT a TCS/ETS car (traction control, electronic throttle) and as such has the newer and more reliable ABS system as well as a cable controlled throttle. Good Aeros are out there but most were every option, and by now need $1000+ throttle body replacements and frequent recalibration by the $AAB dealer.
