Purchased brand-new with ONE mile on the odometer
by my father at RK BMW, Deptford, NJ in 1991, this Pearl Silver (a lustrous
off-white) K100RS was special-ordered and heavily optioned by my father
through Rob Kiviat.
With the H4 Euro Light on main beam - this was
not added later but ordered along with a host of excellent options. See
order sheet and other documentation following the main body of photos.
The early 1990s K100RS was essentially the iconic
K-1 Superbike without the racy details and with a functional fairing for
the best balance of sportbike and long-haul tourer.
Front and rear brakes alike are brand new.
Unlike early 4-cylinder inline BMW K100 engines,
the 16 valve 1-litre was a very peppy engine without compromising low-end
torque. Enthusiasts today prefer the early-1990s K100 to the mid-1990s 1100
as this engine tends to rev more quickly, getting the rider to the point
of peak power that much more quickly.
Fitted with quick-release factory BMW panniers,
this K100RS can be taken on long trips. An accessory rear trunk also conveys
with the bike.
You'll notice that the last time the bike was
registered was the fall of 1995, expiring in September, 1996. That is the
last this bike was on the road until late 2008 after local Virginia BMW
guru Eppa Wimbish revived this machine with a full fluid and filter change,
new battery, new premium Metzler tires and a full checking over culminating
in a state inspection. Naturally, this low-mileage garage queen passed with
flying colors.
The NJ license plate on this bike has been on
four of my father's BMW motorcycles. He owned a 1974 R90S, a 1978 R100RS
Motorsport, a 1985.5 K100RT and this bike. Like the plate, my father is
a seasoned BMW motorcyclist and took excellent care of this machine whether
in or out of service.
You will notice that this bike is like a two-year
old example throughout.
The Ohlins adjustable preload and damping monoshock
was fitted at a significant upcharge by RK BMW. The original shock is still
with the bike and conveys at the request of the new owner if desired. This
shock can be firmed up for two-up or softened for one passenger at a turn
of this knob.
You'll notice the unusual headlight-off switch
on the right control pod. This was fitted along with the Euro headlamp by
RK. Note also the heated handgrips and ABS-defeat switch.
Immediately after startup, the ABS lights are
both on until the bike rolls over 2mph and the rear brake is depressed.
And here with the bike off and back on its stand,
ridden out the driveway and back into the garage to clear the lights. Just
so you know it all works exactly as it should.
Note fuel and temperature gauges in the fairing.
Note perfect color on all switches. This bike has never spent a night outside
without a cover on it, and then only on a trip, otherwise it has been indoors,
period.
The Corbin saddle was fitted by RK on exchange
when brand new.
Under the seat, all as it should be.
The EPA sticker - this is a 50-state bike, so
feel free to fly in and ride home to Santa Barbara or Sacramento...
The VIN sticker.
The inspection sticker, fitted 1 December 2008
when all work was complete.
The factory toolkit and European bulb and fuse
set, as well as a European tyre repair kit. The tools have never been used.
The owners manual sleeve with all materials
and more present.
Recent receipts for tires, state inspection,
the original EFI ECU chip (a light horsepower improvement chip was fitted
when new) and another emergency tire repair kit.
These bag liners are original BMW accessories
that fit inside the panniers.
We've had this rear trunk since the 1985.5 K100RT.
It features an integral passenger backrest. Somewhere along the way, we've
lost the key to this - Dad moved recently and it may yet turn up. The panniers
open with the ignition key which is more than convenient, but since this
dates to the earlier bike, we're not sure what to do short of rekeying this.
The buyer will be notified if we find any other keys.
The original title, registration, sales order
and FAXed copy of the sales order as sent to my father before he picked
the bike up.
The original sales order including the trades.
A little easier to read - this bike sold new
for almost $13,000 in 1991!
The original title.
The original registration document issued along
with the title when new.
so... why are
we selling??
My father just retired after nearly forty years
in the high-end automobile retail industry. He had little time to go out
and ride these last few years and his interests changed somewhat. Now retired
and moved down to Virginia, he fully intended to keep and ride this bike
in the Virginia countryside.
My motorcycle guru, Eppa Wimbish of Aylett,
VA, moved all three of my father's collector-grade bikes south, got them
all to 100% running condition and we sold two of them to make this all the
more feasible for my father.
Unfortunately, my father broke his shoulder
last month and he is uncertain whether he will ride again. He has been on
the fence all the same since he has two interesting and enjoyable collector
automobiles as well. I think this unfortunate accident helped him make up
his mind as to what to do with this special bike.
Just yesterday, a friend of mine and I rode
this bike down from Eppa's place to my home in the Richmond suburbs. It
did everything right, just as it should and did when it was brand new. I
treated it to a light detailing, cleaning off a bit of accumulated grime
after many years of storage. Naturally, it cleaned right up. The paint is
excellent throughout aside from two very small chips and one light rub spot
on the right edge of the tank from my father's leathers. There are also
a few older touchups that have aged, but these are very, very minor.
So, with spring in the air and some tax refunds
on their way if not already in hand, why not treat yourself to an absolutely
unrepeatable example of one of the finest neo-classic BMW motorcycles available
anywhere?
Along with the aforementioned options and accessories,
a pair of Schuberth/BMW System II helmets in 58/59 and 60/61 with built-in
BMW accessory intercoms and a heated vest (both of which plug into the accessory
outlets above the ignition coils, see photo above) are included with the

payment/shipping/test-ride terms
Payment is due via cash on pickup or cashier's
cheque/certified funds within seven days of auction close. Certified funds
other than cash must clear my bank account before title and/or bike convey.
There will be no exceptions to this unless
cleared with me in advance of your bid.
Shipping is the responsibility of the purchaser.
I will aid your shipper if you choose to use one by any means necessary.
I will not make arrangements for you. The bike must be picked up within
fourteen days of your auction win, again, unless
cleared with me in advance of your bid. I will be only too happy to
pick you up at the airport et.c. should you fly in and ride home.
On-site inspections are more than welcome, please
contact me at the number below during daytime hours or e-mail
me at any time with your intentions. Those wishing to go for a test
ride must be licensed to ride a motorcycle and bring a motorcycle dealer
plate or other valid license with them as well as legally assume all risk
for themselves and the bike as the bike is not currently registered or insured.
Taking a test ride will be recognized legally as acceptance of these terms
as set forth in this ad - simply put, "you break it, you buy it".
If all you want to do is ride an exceptional K-bike, make sure you can afford
it first. Further, I love to talk bikes, cars, antiques et.c. but I don't
have time all the time for anyone who is not seriously interested in this
machine, please respect that before calling or e-mailing - it is greatly
appreciated.
Fraudulent bidders (i.e. those who misuse eBay
for reasons not understood) will be pursued and prosecuted without mercy.
I have no time for time-wasters. In a similar vein, those with an overall-negative
eBay feedback rating MUST contact me before placing any bid to clarify their
position and intentions.
SO... bid with confidence, see my feedback,
but most of all - thanks for looking.
