1985 Jaguar XJ6 Sovereign
7" Euro Lights - New Paint, Wood, Leather & More - An Enthusiast's Car
Please wait for the description and all pictures to load!

4.2 litre XK straight six - BW66 3-speed automatic transmission
115,272 miles from new - much recent restorative work and many upgrades completed
Note European spec 7" H4 outboard lamps as well as 5 3/4" H1 inboard - fuseblock uprated to handle extra load!

Cobalt Blue metallic repaint within last 3 years - while not show quality, very presentable
At time of repaint all seals and gaskets on the body were replaced - sidemarkers, glass, doors, trunk, bonnet
Windshield itself a recent replacement - no pitting, cracks or chips.

And from the rear. I just replaced the power antenna on this car with as genuine a unit is available (nearly $300), using factory original exterior escutcheons to make it look as new.

Note the rare lattice-style "Pepperpot" alloy wheels - featured on European Sovereigns, Daimler Vanden Plas & Double-Six (XJ12 / V12) models and as a rare and very expensive accessory on these cars in the USA.

The rims are in excellent shape. The car comes with 5 with nearly new Yokohama Avid tires.

And now for the piece de resistance - the nearly new Connolly leather throughout. Absolutely no flaws. You will not find another XJ6 short of $10,000 with this new an interior.

The rear seat has seen even less use since the leather was fitted. See how well the fit is on the front seat headrests (extreme top left of this photo). A leather kit of this quality alone is around $3,000 - it is the same grade Connolly Autolux as in the Vanden Plas and Rolls Royce/Bentley - much softer than the original standard Jaguar material.

Looking through the sunroof, along with the leather, the dash & console wood as well as the headliner were also completely renewed. The automatic climate control works perfectly with a new genuine Jaguar Delanair amplifier and the AC blows ice cold with a properly performed R134a conversion which uses an Arco-Air rebuilt A6 radial compressor. The heat blows super hot as well on those cold winter days!

Another shot of the wood and leather. The Kenwood AM/FM/Cassette 40Wx4 stereo has a 10 CD changer in the trunk, mounted beneath the air distribution box which by the way does not perform "cowbells" like most older XJs, it has also been fixed up.

Finally, under the hood (bonnet!) the 4.2 fires right off at the touch of a key - major service was just performed less than 500 miles ago - cap/rotor/plugs/wires/air, fuel and oil filters. The (NEW Bosch, not reman) air flow meter (over $600 list) was just replaced along with the intake air boots. I also replaced the original Ducellier coil with a Bosch Super (red) coil for better performance and economy.

In addition, the tappet guides were staked down at one point, so you will not have to worry about that expensive and high skill level repair - ever!

The transmission shifts like new - neither slips nor grabs nor goes into gears too early or late.

The front and rear suspension are tight and the car rides as it should.

The steering rack bushings were replaced with urethane but are degrading and should be replaced in a little while with the original factory style bushings.

I have not noticed any substantial leaks or oil consumption. A few drips of oil here and there were left by this car and all its siblings on the factory floor at Coventry - it is no Toyota.

The car is also fitted with keyless entry and an ear-piercing alarm to make sure nobody steals your Cat.

I have owned and/or worked on *numerous* XJs and - I'm just not driving this car. I thought I would, yet it sits in my garage. I purchased it through a broker from a very conscientious owner and Jaguar enthusiast who apparently just got tired of it which I found very surprising and opportune with the thousands of dollars invested in its restoration. I regretted selling my 1987 Vanden Plas a couple years ago and now I remember why I did that, because it was a similarly nice car which didn't see a lot of practical use in my day to day travels.

My decision to sell this came about when, recently, a friend of a friend passed away unexpectedly and I bought a rare collectable car out of his estate, so if something is going to sit, I think it will be the Packard and not this.

I've worked to make the car reliable to be used daily, and while I'm sure there will always be "something" to do on an 18+ year old car, this is a far better example than most. I should not need remind anyone interested in any older car, let alone a Jaguar, that purchase price is merely the price of admission, and not the last dime you will spend.

Payment is due in full within seven (7) days of auction close - cash on pickup or certified/cashier's/teller cheque from your bank. I am not a bank, so see yours if you want a loan or a finance option. Deadbeat bidders will be charged with fraud, and if you are out of state, the FBI will come get you, have no illusions. Pickup must occur within 14 days of auction close - I will help with, but not make, transport arrangements for you if you do not want to pick the car up in person. Yes, it's fun to do, and this car is a great example of a car which can be easily retrieved, but I have found more often than not that a transporter is the way to go monetarily unless you are relatively close to here or want to take an expensive driving vacation.

I am located between Richmond and Williamsburg, VA and am close to both Patrick Henry Airport in Newport News (PHF) and Byrd Field in Richmond (RIC) and can pick you up there. Likewise, Amtrak and Greyhound also run to this area, and I can meet you there as well.

Please contact me with any questions or concerns - you will notice that I have not accrued 560 positive feedbacks without telling the truth - I've bought and sold quite a few vehicles on eBay along with plenty of other stuff. Bid with confidence, review my feedback - and THANKS for looking!
