1971 SAAB 95V4
Car has received over $10,000 worth of restoration in last four years
Needs a little more to be a GREAT Vintage Ride ...

Just under 150,000 original miles - approximately 5 owners from new.
Off the road since January, 2005 - other projects have taken precedence.
1972 Sonett 1700cc V4 - Weber 34ICH - Pertronix Ignitor - Great 4 speed transaxle & Fresh Clutch!
Engine, transmission, steering rack, entire front end out of car and detailed in December, 2004
Brakes done at all four wheels during 2003-2004.
Car now sports a nice set of repainted Soccerball mags with older tires, not the '71 mags as pictured (they're on my '78 GL)

COMPREHENSIVE DE-RUSTING OF ROCKER PANELS AND FLOORPAN CARRIED OUT IN 2003 BY THE PREVIOUS OWNER - ONE OF OUR CUSTOMERS - THE SHOP SHE HIRED FABRICATED AN ENTIRELY NEW PAIR OF ROCKERS AND AN ENTIRELY NEW AND CORRECT FLOORPAN. HER BILL WAS IN EXCESS OF $8,000 - AND THAT WAS BEFORE THE SHOP SHE HIRED TO DO THE WORK PUT ANYTHING BACK IN THE CAR. WE SPENT A LONG TIME WITH HER PUTTING THE DETAILS BACK TOGETHER, PROVIDING HER WITH PARTS THEY LOST... AND THEN SHE WAS UNABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR ANY DISTANCE DUE TO AN UNRELATED BACK PROBLEM!

Prior to a small fender bender which exposed a rusty area beneath the right front fender at the turnsignal (see below for detailed explanation) this is what the car looked like. This picture was taken before another front bumper was put together - this and another bumper in similarly excellent condition come with the car as well as a stripped grille panel, right front fender, and a piece of the right front inner fender and lower valance - all completely stripped and ready for welding. Currently, the front panel is off the car along with all front trim, as well as right front fender. We will provide you with MORE THAN ENOUGH good parts to put the car back right as rain.

December, 2004 - before the radiator went back on. Note fresh MSS header, fresh black paint on the V4, all new hoses, clamps, refinished water pipes, new water pump, 70A alternator, cadmium plated side mount, overhauled clutch hydraulics... What you don't see - new transmission mount, resealed transmission and LOTS more done correctly. Yes, the engine is running in this picture.

Fresh ball joints, wheel bearings, tie rod ends, rebuilt starter (see through the engine bay vent?), refinished control arms, new bushings...

The other side all together with rebuilt calipers, new rotors, pads, stainless brake hoses...

The only picture I have of the interior of this car, the front seats were redone professionally by the prior owner. My personal Moto-Lita steering wheel and later model floormats do not go with the car (they're in my '78 GL), original 1970-75 wheel and original grey carpet do convey. Modern JVC CD/stereo is installed in the dash but I never came up with speaker locations I liked, suggest you do what I do in some of my other 95s and mount them in the wastebaskets. Oh - the dash pad is intact. It's starting to lift on the driver's side but is uncracked. Headliner is nice. Back seats (2nd and 3rd rows) are intact.

who am I/why am I selling?

I'm Chip Lamb, West of Sweden SAAB in Richmond, VA. I bought this car from our aforementioned parts customer in late 2004, performed a general mechanical freshening on it, then had a minor fender bender in early 2005 during an ice storm. I took the car apart, have tried to make time to deal with it, and have not done so. Today I pulled it out of the shop to clean behind it, and realized that with my other vintage SAABs, I just haven't found the time to deal with this. At one time, one of the GM Heritage guys expressed an interest in acquiring the car, but they would attempt to return it to bone stock original and the car is too nice a driver with the Weber, MSS header et.c. to be lost in the museum. On the other hand, I have a '78 95GL you may have seen at Carlisle or another SAAB event which I brought in from Sweden and don't even drive it enough, so I need to find a home for this one which has been languishing all but forgotten.

The damaged area is restricted to the right front corner of the unitbody which is where the right side of the front panel and the fender come together. The typical vintage SAAB front turnsignal rust combined with Pennsylvania bondo on a 1980s era repaint combined to rot out the old fender (I threw it out post-wreck) and the underlying metal. This corner of the lower valance is also pitted with rust, and this entire corner is included with the car for replacement along with a good clean fender and an absolutely perfect bare metal front panel.

There are a few bubbles in the door bottoms and other places but nothing I was ever worried about. The slightly tweaked front bumper and the replacement front bumper I have saved for the car have very nice polishable chrome to match the original rear bumper. I have a selection of grille parts, a perfect original center with badge, rebuilt headlight buckets with Hella Vision H4 flat lamps... and so much more... to go with this.

The gas tank is good, all gauges work, the car runs and drives, it fires right up thanks to a tight engine and a modern carburetor and breakerless ignition almost effortlessly. Oil pressure is a steady 35-40psi at idle and over 50 going down the road. There's just not enough hours in the day or expendable room in my big garage for this to sit much longer and I feel as guilty not doing anything with this simple repair as I do selling it today.

I've got a new garage I'm wiring, some other projects and some cars coming in here and there during the course of the year, so I don't forsee getting to this. My loss is your gain - even with what needs to be done, this is NOT your average old vintage SAAB ... but one which is very worthy of being done right ... this is one of the reasons I didn't just slap it back together.

I will load the back of the car up with good stuff for you, more if you come for the car in person, you can pick stuff you want. I'm very amenable and want the car to go to a good home.

payment/shipping

Payment must be received in full within seven days of auction close unless prior arrangements are made with me. No exceptions. Title is clear and in my hands. If you are in Virginia, the 1971 plates on the car can convey if you want them.

Shipping must take place within fourteen days of auction close unless prior arrangements are made with me before the close of auction. No exceptions. I'm happy to work with you and will do whatever it takes to make this work for you, but the reason for selling this now is that I need the room. I have cars scattered far and wide which need to come home. Since there's no front grille et.c. on the car, it will need to be trailered or similar.
