PERFECT running and driving condition - tight, smooth and solid like a 3 year old car.

It's hard to tell whether or not the car has ever been painted - my instinct tells me it was, but to even the discerning eye, it is hard to say. Needless to mention there are NO issues with the paint under very hard scrutiny looking everywhere I know to. Base of the windshield & backlight, bottoms of doors, front and rear valances are absolutely free of putty or bad prep work.

Chrome items are flawless. No dents in bumper finishers, no dings in the grille, headlight rings, mirrors, et.c. Dealer fitted rocker panel moldings are hiding nothing. Door edge guards are perfect and original.

Windshield is a newer dealer replacement and is pit-free like a new one.

As you can see, the car is free of dents and dings down the side. Taillamp lenses are in like-new condition along with the rear brightwork.

The rear bumper, like the front one, is free of any impact damage and shines like new along with its chrome finisher. Defunct power antenna was replaced the day after these pictures were taken with as close an item to original as possible, retaining the fender escutcheon to appear stock.

Exhaust system is leak-free right down to the original polished tips. As you can see, there's no rust or damage to the lower valance below the fuel tanks or along the centre of the car.

Boot upholstery is absolutely like-new; that's a shadow, not a stain, in the lower corner closest to the seal. Jack and lug wrench are in their bag, probably never used.

The right side, like the left, is spotless and without issue of any kind.

Original "Kent" Alloy rims are shod with Pirelli Z-Rated P4000 215/70/15s. No idea why they opted for Z rated, but stability is beyond compare, as it should be. Tread is about equally half gone, front and rear - you've got 20,000 miles or so before you wear these out.

We look inside the front passenger door to find one of the nicer original Series III XJ6 interiors left on the planet. Leather, carpet, vinyl and wood are spotless, crack free and without visible wear. Like the exterior and the mechanicals, the interior of this car was maintained as it needed it, not after something went bad. Additionally, I treated the front seats with Gliptone leather cleaner and conditioner. If I have time, I'll do the rear as well. A very large quantity of Gliptone will go to the person who hits "Buy it Now" - on the house.

The dash top and crash roll are in the same condition as the leather upholstery. There are no cracks in the dash top nor in the veneer or lacquer on the wood.

The same thing through the sunroof. Sunroof, power windows, mirrors and locks work as intended.

Just like the passenger's seat, surprise, surprise, the original Biscuit hides on the driver's seat are without fault. Armrest on the centre console and on the doors - all of them - are pristine, without cracks or fading.

The leather on the steering wheel is equally good. All switchgear, instrumentation and illumination work without flaw.

The original factory AM/FM/Cassette stereo works flawlessly - as does the original Delanair Mark II Climate Control system. I will throw in one of my reproduction service training guides for the climate control to the winning bidder - though you will not need it immediately, it is a handy guide to the climate control system. AC blows ice cubes through the dash vents, heat works, everything is on demand. AC was serviced two years and 30,000 miles ago and has no faults at all. And yes, the trip computer works without any problems, keeps perfect time, average speed, fuel consumption et.c.

Ashtrays have never been used for their intended purpose, nor has the cigar lighter.

I've owned a number of Series I, II and III XJs. There is no substitute, even low original mileage, for correct and thorough maintenance combined with excellent cosmetic condition. These cars are known to run well past 200,000 miles with regular maintenance, yet fall flat on their face at 60,000 miles in the hands of some oxygen thief owner (like some folks I know who bought them new).

Keep reading, and I'll elucidate on some of the major points already carried out on this car which will not need revisiting. Note hot idle oil pressure - that's not a fluke. I've driven this car an additional 100 miles since taking these pictures, and it keeps getting better and better.

The rear seat, unsurprisingly, is just as good as the front.

The headliner appears to be original and is completely without fault.

On to what's really important! The engine in this car had a comprehensive top end rebuild less than 30,000 miles ago. Valves, seats, guides, springs and tappets along with the important tappet sleeve stakedown kit were done. The Jaguar competition "black" racing studs were installed in the block to prevent future stretching and/or the need for this cylinder head to ever come off again. Clearances should be checked repeatedly, and have been since this major overhaul was completed.

Along with regular filter replacements, all six fuel injectors and related fuel injection hose were replaced about the time of the top end rebuild. Most cooling hoses have been changed since. The lower radiator hoses and the water pump bypass hose were just done the other day by me when the lower radiator hose started to seep.

Since the car runs so well, it would be a shame if the transmission didn't shift well. It has had regular service and a light overhaul within the last ten years.

Suspension and steering are tight and the ride quality is as intended with newer KYB gas shock absorbers all the way around - two in front and four in rear.

I'm Chip Lamb, small business owner and general car fanatic. Unlike some of the seemingly primo cars of this ilk out on eBay, I'm not some slick Willie, Fast Freddy used car dealer. This really is legitimate.

About 2 months ago, my friend Dick Pilcher called me and asked me if I wanted to buy a customer of his' car, since said customer was hot to sell after 18 years of proud ownership and Dick's capable servicing. After a short adventure in acquiring the car and bringing it up to snuff, I made the decision to pass it along to someone else as appreciative as I am. I have owned some really stellar Jaguars and cleaned up some not-so-stellar-to-begin-with XJs. I have been around the block a few times, and trust me, I wouldn't have touched this with a ten foot pole if it weren't a very right car.

If you're new to the Jaguar world, or just to XJs, I'd recommend joining the XJ forum at Jag-Lovers. There is no better resource for these cars or their owners than the collective wisdom and the results of other people's mistakes than the 10 year old Jag-Lovers forums. I am one of the original administrators of those lists, specifically the one pertaining to cars converted to alternate powertrains! Yes, then I grew up!
